Lauren does work supporting new graduates from UKSA with help to find work and prepare them for the demands of superyachting. At UKSA they also provide continuing education to further yachting careers up to Captain, and also provide basic training for intererior crew . Lauren also talks about courses which offer further skills & qualifications for advancement in the industry and mental health & awareness courses offered by UKSA. This aspect is being taken up by more and more Captains in the industry as well as being accessible for anyone so is great for the industry and for retention of staff. Getting your first job can be difficult so can waiting for weeks on end for something to come your way and so she offers tips that can be used by anyone.

Lauren hasn’t worked onboard herself, the work she does is focused on the training, progression, and retention of crew within the sector.

We discussed how the @uksasailing careers package includes Industry Guidance sessions to prepare for life onboard and securing work, as well as their newly accredited Mental Health and Wellbeing Training for Seafarers.

So far in 2024, she’s been lucky to place 14 of her Superyacht Cadets through industry contacts onboard vessels, and she loves being a continual part of their training journey to OOW <3000GT and beyond.

Attending industry events is a huge bonus for her and allows her to stay in touch with her alumni post-graduation – She said to keep an eye out for a graduate meet-up later this year! 👀
