Jake has just got his first job since graduating from UKSA on a motor yacht in Malta. He talks about his first expereince since joining & offers insights for those still trying to land their first job. He talks about how certain personality traits have helped to integrate into the live, work, play aspect of life on superyachts.
Jake is only 18 and wanted to work on superyachts so enrolled with UKSA to do a course that would get him qualified to work as a deckhand in the industry. After several months living away from home and learning lots of new skills he is in his first job as a Deckhand based in Malta. He found the support and mentoring through UKSA invaluable for learning and the importance of networking. He had help in finding a job through Lauren, at Lauren Industry Insights who helps everyone with finding jobs and opportunities.
He talks about his first reactions to this new life, he talks about fitting in with the crew to live, work and play and how his course experience was put into practice. At 18 he has a big adventure ahead, his excitment and passion for what he’s doing now is evident. He’s very much looking forward to his next job in the Med which starts soon. He’s excited about taking on responsibilities and opportunities and continuing his journey towards ranking up eventually to Lead Deckhand and Bosun. Of course, he’s also very much looking forward to enjoying the fun aspects of this job – travelling, partying & playing with all the toys!
