Today’s podcast interview is with Mel, she’s a 23 year old Bosun and blogger.
She’s climbed up the deck crew ladder because her goal is to get her Officer of the Watch and work as a First Officer by the end of 2024.
She’s done most of the course work, training book & sea times but needs to finish off by doing a few more courses and a notice of eligibiity to complete this.
She loves travel, free diving, and writing a blog about her experiences in. Yachting, on her website Shaped by the Sea. She also talks about her routines to keep sane and manage stress by making time for herself.
Mel talks about the importance of investing in yourselves – to put money asside as soon as you can so if you have to leave yachting suddenly you have something behind you.
She talks about dipping in and out of yachting when time is right for you, leave when you have to figure out what you want and return when time is right for you. Be selective in your choices of what you want, don’t be pressured into taking a job if you don’t feel it’s the right job at the right time.
