Greenie trying to get my first job in superyachting

Today’s podcast is relevant for any green crew, who are looking for their first job. Rosie is 18 and despite her age has a lot of experience sailing with a crew and has a very clear vision of where she wants to be in the future.

A recent article in OnboardOnline pointed out what Captains and recruiters are looking for nowadays.

You must have grounded expectations of what the yachting industry entails & expectations that align with the realities of this lifestyle. Have a good understanding of what it takes to fit in with the crew, a willingness to listen, learn are key personal traits Captains look for.

Recruiters are now saying that dockwalking, done in the past is not an effective way to get a job in this climate. Demonstrating at interview that you have transferrable skils which can be invaluable to deck, galley and interior crew is useful.

You need to come accross in interviews as someone who has life experiences or interests that show you can face the demands of this job.

Other personality traits they look for are positivity, flexibility, reliability, resilience, being able to fit in with the crew and a good work ethic, are qualities that will help you get the job.
